Family gatherings used to be something we could count on—a regular, comforting part of our lives. However, today, they’ve become increasingly rare. In the rush of modern life, that moves at a faster pace, family reunions are now few and far between. With work, school, and busy schedules, people find it hard to carve out time to be together. It’s not just the daily grind that’s changed how we interact—it’s also the rise of social media. While it connects us to the world, it doesn't replace the warm feeling of actually being with family. Instead of spending time with our loved ones, many of us scroll through our phones, do video calls, chat more on family groups, but missing out on physical get togethers and family bonding times. As a result, we’re slowly drifting away from the close-knit family ties that once defined us.
Growing up, Sunday lunch at my grandmother’s house was the highlight of my week. The smell of biryani, moong ki dal ka halwa, and chole puri filled the air as we all sat down at her large dining table. It was more than just about the food—it was about the stories. The stories my grandparents shared, the jokes, the history, and the connections we built. Those moments didn’t just make our bond stronger—they were and still are the stories and kissas that hold our family together. But today, it's becoming harder to make time for those moments. With the constant pressure to work harder and do more, family reunions have fallen down the priority list.

The ripple effect on family relationships
It’s more than just missing out on Sunday lunches; it’s the erosion of family history and legacy. The stories of our parents and grandparents, the traditions, the experiences—these are often left untold, left to fade away with time. The lack of family gatherings means fewer opportunities to share those rich histories and traditions that bind us.
Without those connections, how do we stay in touch with our roots? How do we preserve the wisdom passed down through generations? How do we ensure that future generations will know their ancestors’ stories?
One of the things we’ve learned at Kagaz ke Phool is just how many families experience this disconnection, even if they live close to one another.
"I live just 15 minutes away from my parents, but we hardly get to meet anymore," shared Aditi Mehra.
"We’re all so busy with work, children, and other commitments we just don’t get the time to meet them sometimes." Her brother, Vikram, echoed this sentiment during a family interview, "We’ve all grown up in the same house, but now, I can barely find the time to catch up with my own sister. Family used to be everything, but now, we’re just living parallel lives."
When we spoke to them about their family’s story, they all seemed to light up.
"We’ve missed telling these stories," Aditi admitted. "We never realized how much we miss hearing them from each other."

What we recommend
That’s exactly why we believe that family stories are the foundation of who we are. Our mission is to preserve those stories in a beautiful and meaningful way—through biographies and legacy books that capture the essence of family history. We want to help families document their journey and the milestones that define them, ensuring that those stories live on for future generations to experience.
For the Mehra family, we turned their fragmented family stories into a book, capturing their childhood memories, milestones, and the moments that shaped them. Aditi, Vikram, and their parents could now look back on these memories whenever they wished, keeping those moments alive even when they couldn't gather as often as they wanted to. "It’s like having a piece of family with me, even when we’re not together," Aditi said after receiving the book.
By writing biographies, we can keep those connections alive, long after the family gatherings are over. It’s a way to bring the family’s legacy into a tangible form that’s more than just memories—it’s a keepsake, a living piece of history for everyone to hold on to.
How can you reconnect with your family
While it might seem like family gatherings are a thing of the past, there are ways to reconnect and preserve these precious moments. Here’s how:
Make Family Time a Priority: Just like we schedule meetings and appointments, scheduling family gatherings should become part of your routine. Whether it’s a monthly family lunch, a quarterly reunion or an annual vacation, set the time aside and stick to it.
Create Traditions: Starting new traditions is a great way to ensure family bonding continues, no matter where life takes you. These could be as simple as a weekly call, an annual vacation, or regular family game nights.
Document Your Stories: Storytelling is one of the best ways to preserve family history. Whether you sit down and share stories at the dinner table, or record them through voice notes, make an effort to document them. These moments are invaluable.
Preserve Your Legacy: At Kagaz ke Phool, we specialize in turning family stories into keepsakes that capture your family’s journey. Whether it's a biography, a family history book, or a collection of traditions, we create beautiful, timeless books that keep your family’s legacy alive.

The Importance of Family, Now More Than Ever
It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of life, but family is the foundation of everything.
